Bayards is one of the few companies in the world with its own machinery, fully dedicated to the material aluminium. Our ultramodern machine park contains one of the largest friction stir welding machines in Europe, various CNC machines, bending machines and welding robots. In addition, we have in-house blasting and painting facilities for various types of surface treatments.

Apart from aluminium, engineering forms the core of our company. That is what distinguishes us from other aluminium construction companies. Every project that we take on must be a technical challenge for our Engineering department. We work with a large, dedicated group of highly skilled engineers from all around the world who specialize in aluminium. Bayards is the market leader in the industry and to maintain that position, we continuously invest in our people and technical software such as Tekla, STAAD and Siemens NX. Taking their knowledge of aluminium as a starting point, our experienced engineering department uses that software to create the ideal solutions for our clients. Various factors are taken into account in this process, including strength, durability and installation, as well as safety and the environment.

Our facilities

Our story began in Nieuw-Lekkerland in 1963. What started out as a small workshop grew extensively to the headquarters and production facilities as we know it today. With a production facility comprising of 5 halls, this is the epicentre of our organization. Through the years, Bayards has expanded and we currently have over 10 offices worldwide and 4 production facilities in the Netherlands, including our headquarters in Nieuw-Lekkerland. In addition to our offices in Nieuw-Lekkerland, we are located in Dintelmond, Rotterdam IJsselmonde and Lelystad. Each of our production facilities has its own focus products, techniques and related expertise.

A large part of our work is machining our own extruded profiles. In doing  so, our team of experienced Computer Numerical Controlled (CNC) machinists uses the high-speed, high-precision milling machines in our privately owned machine park. Each machine is used for a specific application, but  the common denominator is that they are all used to accomplish the ultimate finished solution in aluminium.

Bayards is renowned for its complex aluminium structures. To create these solutions in aluminium, we use multiple welding techniques and machines, such as MIG welding, TIG welding, Friction Stir Welding and robot welding. Each welding technique is used for a specific application, but what they all have in common is that they are used to accomplish the ultimate weld that meets the client’s expectation in both strength and aesthetics.

Honorable mention: Friction Stir Welding

The most notable acquisition of our machine park has to be our friction stir welding machine. This machine mechanically intermixes two pieces of aluminium at the join, softening the material so the metal can be fused using mechanical pressure. The main benefits of friction stir welding are minimal material distortion and high-strength welds without inclusions or impurities. This makes the welding technique extremely suitable for products with an important aesthetic aspect.

By using various bending and twisting techniques, we create the most innovative and aesthetically pleasing solutions in aluminium that truly add value to their environment. Our bending process is fully computer-controlled and our machine park consists of various bending machines that can accommodate several types of aluminium, varying in dimension and shape. Whether it concerns a standard radius, a basket arch, ellipse, free form or 3D bend, thanks to our in-house team of skilled benders we can always create the perfect bended or twisted solution for our clients.

In addition to aluminium, we also bend other materials, such as acrylics. This allows us to combine multiple materials in our noise barriers and facades, resulting in unique finished products. We can bend thin and thick-walled acrylics >10 mm and our facilities can accommodate large extruded or cast acrylic sheets up to 8000 x 2500 mm. In addition, we can bend acrylic sheets up to 6000 mm in length.

Surface treatment

In addition to welding, milling and bending, Bayards’ production facilities also include a fully equipped state-of-the-art paint shop and shot blasting facility (both 14000 x 8000 x 5000 mm). At our facilities in Nieuw-Lekkerland we blast, prime and paint our solutions in aluminium, such as our helideck planking and the bridges and reconnaissance vehicles for defence. We have developed our own painting procedure to effortlessly guarantee our high quality standards. All surface treatments therefore take place under the watchful eye of our in-house painting specialists.
